Machine Learning Classification

The adoption of artificial intelligence in point cloud classification has moved beyond experimental phases into production workflows. This session will demonstrate how machine learning models can be trained and deployed within Terrasolid environments to automatically identify ground points, vegetation, buildings, and infrastructure elements. Attendees will learn practical strategies for training data preparation, model validation, and quality assurance processes that ensure AI-enhanced classifications meet industry standards for accuracy and reliability.

Change Detection

Multi-temporal analysis has become essential for infrastructure monitoring, environmental assessment, and urban planning applications. Advanced change detection techniques allow professionals to quantify differences between datasets captured at different times, identifying modifications to terrain, structures, and vegetation with precision. This presentation will cover methodologies for dataset alignment, noise filtering, and threshold determination, along with best practices for reporting and visualizing detected changes in ways that are meaningful to clients and stakeholders.

Tripod Scanner Processing/Window Reflections

Terrestrial laser scanning presents unique challenges that differ significantly from airborne lidar processing. Window reflections, in particular, have long been a problematic artifact in indoor and building facade scans. This technical deep-dive will explore specialized algorithms and workflow techniques for identifying and removing spurious points caused by transparent and reflective surfaces. Participants will gain insights into parameter optimization and manual refinement strategies that produce clean, usable datasets from challenging terrestrial scan environments.

Gaussian Splats

Gaussian Splatting offers an intuitive approach to 3D geospatial data visualization, enabling professionals to identify details and features with greater fidelity than traditional mesh-based methods, especially for reflective surfaces; however, the spatial accuracy is significantly less than other methodologies. This session will demonstrate a powerful dual workflow approach where Gaussian Splats serve as a high-fidelity visualization layer while simultaneously editing an underlying lidar point cloud in Terrasolid. This integrated methodology allows for real-time visual feedback during editing operations, dramatically improving spatial awareness and precision in classification and feature extraction.
